The Skokomish salmon processing plant was built to provide a more efficient system for handling fish from the Indian commercial fishery on the Skokomish River. It is located on the Olympic Peninsula near the mouth of the Skokomish River about 45 miles southwest of Seattle, Washington (Figure 1). processing plant was designed in 1971, constructed in 1972, and has been in operation since December, 1972. where salmon are hand-butchered and cleaned, smokehouses, refrigeration/ freezing capacity, and a retail outlet (Figure 2).
